However, the study of fictive motion in Vietnamese is limited. Fictive motion can be encoded and expressed differently in different languages, depending on the typological characteristics of each language and the cognitive culture of the native speakers of that language. Since formulated by Talmy, numerous cognitive linguists used his lexicalization patterns and motion event typology as a criterion for exploring fictive motion in many languages. Fictive motion is a term coined by Talmy to refer to a universal linguistic and cognitive salience phenomenon within his framework of lexicalization patterns and motion event typology.
